It’s not often that I see a tweet and get outraged. I think outraged as a word has been so overused that it no longer really conveys the meaning that it used to. But this tweet really got me outraged and enraged.
I’m not Jewish. I’m not particularly religious. I do think that supporting democracy is a good thing in the world. And that’s one of the main reasons that I support Israel. Heck, there are a bunch of reason, all of them pretty valid and rational. Or so I think.
So this tweet. It’s amazing how people will go to such great lengths to show their hostility to Israel. Me? I think they’re anti-Semites. I truly think they have a hatred for Jews and Israel. It’s really that simple. And it has to be when I see the executive director of a supposed human rights group whine on twitter how Israel is given a free pass by the world.
He links to an editorial piece in a Lebanese newspaper with the following dreck.
US outrage at Russia’s #Syria veto must be tempered by the 42 US vetoes since 1972 to protect #Israel from criticism.
Are. You. Serious?
In case you hadn’t heard mr executive director of a supposed human rights watch, you’re going to equate American support for Israel to Chinese and Russian support of Syria?
Have you gone mad?
Let’s compare and contrast, shall we?
Syria… is a brutal dictatorship who see’s nothing wrong with massacring their own people. There’s the support for
Hamas and Hezbollah, the plucky little terrorists trying to wipe Israel off the map. From Wikipedia we have the following lovely information:
Arbitrary detention, torture, and disappearances are widespread. Although Syria’s constitution guarantees gender equality, critics say that personal statutes laws and the penal code discriminate against women and girls. Moreover, it also grants leniency for so-called honor crimes.
Sounds like such a wonderful and charming little dictatorship in the Mediterranean.
Israel… is a working democracy. It is surrounded by countries that wish it wiped off the map. It allows women to openly serve in the military. It allows gays to live openly. And they allow gays to have parades openly too! It does not have an official policy of trying to wipe any of its neighbors off the planet.
So yes. I can absolutely see how mr executive director of a purported human rights organization can say US support for Israel is morally equivalent to Russian and Chinese support of Syria.
Other than hating Jews, I don’t see how you can ever compare Syria and Israel and consider them equally bad. That this guys moral compass is off so much shows the disease of the left. Does Israel have flaws? Yes of course. But there’s just no sane way anyone can compare Israel to Syria.
And to think this guy runs a human rights group? How sad is that. It is an outrage and shows the utter depravity of the leftist mind. It’s a shame that anyone would consider his group legitimate.
